Bootie Loom

29 11 2009

Ok. I’ve gotten myself tickled about the title of this post, but it is true! I just ordered a handmade loom to make baby booties…I hope it comes with instructions. I’ll let you know.
If it works, they will be available to purchase through hot•heads for $13.
Have a great Sunday!

The Day After…

27 11 2009

I hope you all had a super Thanksgiving! We all have so much to be thankful for. I hope that I make a conscious effort to tell others how thankful I am for them on a daily basis, not just one day of the year. So, I want all of you to know how thankful I am for all of you. So many of you are looking for (and buying) yarn for us while you are out of town because there is none available in Rankin, Madison, or Hinds county. You are all knitting and creating unbelievable hats. Susan is writing a computer program specifically for hot•heads so that we can be faithful stewards with what God has blessed us. It will allow us to keep up with what we are purchasing for yarn supplies and what we are giving out and what is coming back in and where it is being distributed. It makes my head hurt just to think about it. I’m so thankful that there are those whose minds work like this. I am thankful for those who are making contacts for us to go to New Orleans in January and hand out 300 hats to men living down by the river (more info on that after Best Gift). I am thankful for those who don’t have time to knit but choose to sew tags onto completed hats. I am thankful for those who set up, sold, and helped tear down the booth at Handworks. I am thankful for those who use their computer skills to design and print tags. I’m thankful for those who sell hats at their friend’s gym in Vicksburg. I’m thankfuI for those who email and ask for hats for a homeless or needy person they know in another state. I am constantly amazed at His goodness and His faithfulness. I can’t wait to see what He is going to do through Best Gift and how He will impact the guests that we bring…and how He will impact me. I am always blown away by how I think I am going to help someone else and how the blessing is always, always brought back to me double-fold. So, during this Thanksgiving holiday, be thankful and…KNIT!

What’s Next?

23 11 2009

Can I just say, you ladies (and our favorite male-knitters), are awesome.
You have worked SO hard, and you have created some fabulous hats!!

So, now we shift our focus completely to Best Gift! Many of you are probably wondering how you can help, so I have some requests and suggestions:

*We need you to try to knit 3-5 hats to give-away on our Ministry Night for Best Gift:
These hats should be neutral in color (camo, brown, gray, navy, black, etc)
PLEASE be mindful of the yarn’s texture!!! Just feel it~ if it is scratchy, don’t use it.
Finish and turn in your hats by Dec 7, so we can make sure we have enough!

*Yarn~ If you need yarn, send Courtney Yancey a message (cfyancey@yahoo.com), she can get you some. If you have yarn, but no time to knit- please let a knitter (or Courtney) know. There may be some of us who have time, but no way to get yarn!

*If you already have completed hats, and you want them off your hands– Here are some options:
1. Bring them to a choir rehearsal, and give them to Courtney Yancey or Amelia Metcalf
2. On good weather days, Courtney will leave a basket on her front porch, just drop them there.
3. Call me (Amelia) or send me a message (abmetcalf@yahoo.com), and maybe I can get them from you!
Make sure you mention “Hats” in the subject line, so I can keep my messages sorted and no one gets overlooked.

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!!

It would be helpful if you would please respond to this message to let us know that you are gonna be knitting. We need to get the word out to all knitters!!!

Really?

22 11 2009

So, Handworks was great. I had a certain monetary number in mind for what I thought we needed to continue with our current project and the two that are projected for January and February. I felt that it was an attainable, yet challenging number. That number was tripled. Really.

Ephesians 3:20-21 (New American Standard Bible)

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,
to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

Heading to Handworks

20 11 2009

Hot•Heads is making their debut at a show this weekend! If you live in the Jackson, MS, area, come see us at the Trade Mart downtown. Hours are Friday from 9-6; Saturday from 9-4. There are some great looking booths…I saw some good potential Christmas gifts, for sure!
Also, we sold 6 hot•heads just setting up yesterday! So, we sold 6 and we will give 6! How awesome is that? All money raised will go to provide materials to make more hats! We are also going to help His Heart at Calvary Church in Jackson with their Christmas party and some gifts for the kids – all from knitting. Whoa.
Hot•Heads…a knitting craze that turned into a giving frenzy. Don’t miss it.

from Mary Beth, with love

19 11 2009

Mary Beth sent me a message asking if she could take some hats to sell at her friend’s gym.  Of course, we thought it was a super idea.  Here’s what happened according to her…

“i was so blessed today by comments on the hats when I displayed them at my friend Kim’s gym in Vicksburg. I was able to talk about this ministry and probably sold about 20 or more hats in 3 hours. I told them about Handworks too. I taught one woman whose husband is in the military and she wants to make hats to send overseas. i am grateful to be involved in this ministry!” – Mary Beth Reeves

Handworks

11/15/09 Hat Count

16 11 2009

XA Hats – 50

Handworks – 115

Giveaway – 120

What we need now is more Handworks hats and more Giveaway. Suggestions for Handworks colors are: black, red, pink striped; orange, pink, red striped; black and white striped; green and blue striped; orange and navy striped. The hats that we have leftover from Handworks will be used for XA. They don’t want all of XA to be in turquoise, black, and gray. They want to add some color in too. Hope this makes sense.
Giveaway hats – we need more solid colored male hats (need some done on the yellow loom) brown, navy, black, gray, camo.

Keep knitting! You guys are doing great!

Sunday Drop Off

12 11 2009

We are trying to get an official count for XA and giveaway hats.  Please drop off any completed hats at Courtney’s house anytime on Sunday, November 15th.  There will be a box on the front porch.  We want to be able to announce by the first of next week what we need to be working on specifically!  Thanks!

Florida Bound

12 11 2009

“Thinking about one of my favorite veterans today. He’s about my age with dreadlocks down his back. An intelligent and handsome young man, but having been dealt a few hard knocks, he is now homeless and living under a bridge. He comes to me often for juice, crackers, and little treats of Hershey’s chocolates that I give him. God bless you, Mark, on this Veteran’s Day.”

This was yesterday’s post by a girl I went to college with.  She is going to give Mark the Hot•Head we are mailing to Florida today!
