Patterns

Vertical Striped Pattern (property of Hot•Heads)

To knit the brim, Garter stitch the first five rows.  which is alternating knit a row,
purl a row.

(Do not cut yarn)

The rest of the hat depends on whether a child hat or adult hat as to how many

rows you do. Starting with row 6, You alternate knitting on each peg.

You knit a peg and then Purl a peg. In the hat above, I knitted the green yarn

and purled the beige yarn.. to keep the yarn straight between each stitch you

have to put whatever color you are going to wrap on top of the color you are

not using before you wrap it….. i.e., knit green yarn, drop beige yarn,

put green yarn on top and then knit the stitch….. drop the green yarn place

beige yarn on top of green yarn then purl the stitch…

For an adult hat, knit then purl a total of 25 rows above the brim.

For a kids hat, knit then purl a total of 20 rows above the brim.

Hope you have fun and you will more than likely develop patience along the way!  :)

Striped Leg Warmers
Created By: Kathy Underwood
Time to Do: 5 hours
Level: Easy
(stripes of Red and Natural)
Instructions
Note: This set of warmers was made from the classic wool. They are nice and warm and the knitting looks great. Be aware, however, that when the wool is washed it might shrink. If you want them to stay the size that you have made them, they will have to be dry-cleaned.
1. Using two strands of Natural Mix yarn as one, e-wrap (wrapping loops on pegs that look like series of lowercase e’s) two times around loom and knit off (pulling bottom loop over top loop and peg).
2. Knit 10 rows and carefully reach inside loom and place loops from first row back over pegs. This makes brim or cuff for top of the leg warmer. Knit this row.
3. Continue knitting until leg warmer is 14″ long (or desired length) using following pattern: 6 rows Rich Red yarn Next 4 rows Natural Mix yarn Next 4 rows Rich Red yarn Next 4 rows Natural Mix yarn Next 4 rows Rich Red yarn Next 4 rows Natural Mix yarn Next 4 rows Rich Red yarn Next 4 rows Natural Mix yarn Next 4 rows Rich Red yarn Next 4 rows Natural Mix yarn Next 4 rows Rich Red yarn Next 4 rows Natural Mix yarn Next 6 rows Rich Red yarn Next 6 rows Natural Mix yarn
4. Using crochet hook, take first two loops off loom and pull second loop through first. Continue on around to take all loops off loom.
5. Knit second leg warmer using directions above. Add beads, button, bells, or whatever you would like to decorate.

Sunflower

This cute sunflower pattern was taken from loomlady.blogspot.com.  Wanted to share it with you….try it and see what you come up with!

To make this sun motif, I used two strands held as one of Red Heart Super Saver in Aran for the center and one strand in Gold for the petals. The twelve stitches of the LMC are doubled on the third row differently from the Watermelon Coaster. The Row 3 stitch sequence for each of the twelve stitches in the LMC are knitted as follows on two pegs of any large gauge Knifty Knitter Loom – I used the 48-peg Purple Hat Loom and worked in the back loops of the stitches:

Center

  1. Rows 1 & 2: The Loomer’s Magic Circle (LMC) as described in theWatermelon Coaster Tutorial forms the first two rows.
  2. Row 3: Add the beginning loop to the right peg, wrap and knit off three times. This forms the beginning stitch.
  3. Still working in the first base stitch, place this loop on the left peg, wrap and knit off three times. Work a lifted bind off stitch as described in the Watermelon Coaster Tutorial. You now have completed two stitches in the back loop of the first LMC stitch.
  4. Lift the back loop of the next LMC stitch and place it on the left peg. *(Wrap and knit off three times; work the lifted bind off.) Place the same LMC stitch back on the left peg and repeat (*) once for a total of two stitches in the first LMC stitch.
  5. Repeat Step 4 for the remaining ten LMC stitches. End by hooking the last loop through the back loop of the first stitch. You should have 24 stitches for this row.
  6. Row 4: Work as for Row 3, but only increase every other stitch for a total of 36 ending stitches. End row as in Step 4 and tie off.

Petals

  1. Form a slip knot with one strand of the gold yarn and attach it in the back loop anywhere along the white edge. Wrap and knit off once.
  2. Lift the next back loop and place it on the left peg. (Note: The next five stitches will be worked in this same loop): *Wrap and knit off 3 times; work a lifted bind off. Repeat from * five times, but wrap and knit off 5 times on the third stitch – this forms the pointed petal.
  3. (Lift the next back loop, wrap and knit off once) repeat once.
  4. Repeat steps 2 & 3, ending with one single wrap stitch and tie off. There should be thirteen petals (lucky, lucky).

Earflap Hat

Start at crown with the gray yarn. Cast on 56 stitches in Stockinette Stitch using a gray Anchor Yarn.
Work in Stockinette Stitch for 5 rows. Cut the gray yarn, leaving a short tail of 2-3”.
Continue in Stockinette Stitch as you work the stripes.
Plain Stripes:
Row 6: Tie on white yarn at beginning of row; work row; do not cut yarn.
Row 7: Tie on black yarn at beginning of row; work row; do not cut yarn.
Row 8: Tie on gray yarn at beginning of row; work row; do not cut yarn.
Rows 9 through 14: Repeat the colored stripe sequence twice more, picking up each color when needed. When the 9th stripe row is complete, cut and knot the gray and black yarns leaving short tails, 2-3”. Do not cut the white.
Rows 15 through 17: With white yarn, work 3 rows. Do not cut the white yarn.
Tweed Stripes:
Row 18: Weave across board to end of stitches with white yarn; do not return the circular. Tie on gray yarn and return to the beginning of the row with gray. Hook over. Do not cut the yarns.
Row 19: Tie on the black yarn. Weave to end of stitches with black; then pick up the white yarn and return to the beginning. Hook over.
Row 20: In the same way, work a tweed row with the white and then the gray yarn.
Row 21: Repeat Row 20 with white and then black yarn.
Row 22: Repeat again with white and then gray yarn. Cut and knot the black and gray yarns, leaving short tails.
Row 23: Work a full circular with white yarn.
Rows 24 through 28: Tie on gray yarn at the beginning of row 24; cut and knot the white yarn, leaving a short tail. Continuing in Stockinette Stitch with gray yarn, work 5 rows. Do not cut the gray yarn; lay it between the boards and bring it to the front between needle #8 and needle #9.
Bind Off for back neck and forehead edges:
At the beginning of the next row, bind off 8 stitches using the Soft Crochet (2 loop) method. Place the last loop from the bind off onto needle #9. Leave the next 11 stitches on the needles for one earflap. Then, working from left to right, bind off next the 18 stitches for front of hat and place the last loop from the bind off onto the next needle on one board. Leave the next 11 stitches on the needles for the second earflap. Now, working from right to left, bind off the last 8 stitches; place the last loop from the bind off onto the adjacent earflap needle. Note that some of the earflap needles have 2 loops; be sure to lift both these loops when you hook over the next row.
Ear Flaps:
Pick up the gray yarn at the left edge of the first earflap. Work 2 rows on these 11 stitches in Stockinette stitch.
(To keep the stitches for the second earflap from being jiggled off their needles, place a piece of tape over them.)
Next row: Decrease 1 stitch at each end on both boards. Work the row in Stockinette Stitch.
Work 2 additional rows in Stockinette stitch.
*Next row: Decrease 1 stitch at each end on both boards. Work the row in Stockinette Stitch.
*Work 1 additional row.
Repeat these 2* rows until you have 1 stitch remaining. Cut and knot the yarn, leaving a short tail.
Tie on gray yarn at left edge of the remaining 11 stitches and work the second earflap just as you did for the first one.FINISHING
Fold the hat so the back edges meet and the stripes match; sew together using gray yarn and invisible stitch. Cut and knot the sewing yarn. Tie the anchor yarn to itself snuggly, sliding all the cast-on stitches together, and then cut the yarn, leaving short tails, 2-3” long. Pull the tails in between the knit layers. Add a pompom to the top of hat at center.
Ties (Make 2)
Cut a 7-foot length of yarn, double it, and use a crochet hook to pull the fold through the end of the earflap. Remove the hook and then pass the ends of the yarn through the folded loop; pull snuggly. Crochet this double strand to make the tie. If you like, attach a small pompom to the end of each tie.
